Meet Our Apprentices

As part of Apprenticeship week meet all the apprentices that have joined the Steelway team and read about their experience of learning on the job.

If you are interested in the apprenticeship scheme we have at Steelway  contact us today to discuss vacancies.

Connor

Connor joined the Design team in May 2021 as a CAD Technician and is currently undertaking a Level 3 Business Improvement Technician apprenticeship.

"As both a 3D Draughtsperson and an apprentice process improvement technician, my days at Steelway are always varied in what tasks are carried out. I could be modelling out a large project through the use of CAD, with potentially some problems. However, with the friendliness of my colleagues and the vast amount of help they provide, I am always confident that no matter what happens, there will always be a resolution. Other days I could be developing our systems and trying to streamline the various different methods that are used all across the business, while discovering limitations and reasons behind why we do certain things and how. Overall, everyday provides a good opportunity for me to learn more about the industry and the products we deal with."

Jack

Jack joined Steelway in July 22 as a Junior CAD Designer and is currently working towards a Level 3 Improvement Technician qualification.

Tom

Tom joined Steelway in November 2021 an apprentice and is undertaking a Level 4 Quality Practitioner apprenticeship.

"As part of the Purchasing & Quality team, I have a diverse role in which I oversee tasks of various kinds. As a leading fabricator of steel products, Steelway fulfil large contracts of which require a lot of material and consumables. Part of my job is to ensure these products are ordered from our suppliers at a reasonable cost, and within a constraint timeframe. I help oversee regular stocktakes, and I am currently in the process of reconstructing the way we record and control our stockholding. I am engaged in an on-the-job Quality Practitioner apprenticeship, which is going to help shape my role to become more involved with the Quality Assurance side of things within the business. I receive regular training and knowledge to help incorporate new responsibilities into my role, which is ever developing and progressing."

Chloe

Chloe joined the Sales and Estimating team in April 2022 as a Sales Administrator and is undertaking a Level 3 Business Administration apprenticeship.

Why did you choose an apprenticeship?

I chose an apprenticeship because I liked that you could learn on the job and get to practise the things yourself, while earning too.

What part do you enjoy the most?

The part I enjoy the most is still learning new things every day and being taught things I didn’t know about before coming here.

What do you see are the biggest benefits of an apprenticeship?

The biggest benefits of an apprenticeship for me is getting the hang of something I have never been taught about before, while still getting a qualification at the end of it which is one thing I wanted the most.

What advice would you give to anyone thinking of becoming an apprentice?

To someone starting an apprenticeship the advice I’d give them is it go for it, there are a lot more benefits in an apprenticeship than just education alone.

Ellis

Ellis joined Steelway in September 2022 as an Apprentice Engineer and has spent his first five months working in different departments within the factory to gain an understanding of our products and manufacturing processes. Ellis has now moved to the Drawing Office where he is already working on his own projects and putting to beneficial use the knowledge he has gained so far.

Spending time around the factory departments has really helped my understanding of the various processes and I have found this very useful when designing products. Everyone has been really encouraging and understanding which has helped build my confidence and knowledge. I would encourage anyone to look at an apprenticeship.

We are looking to take on more apprentices if you are interested contact us today to discuss vacancies.
