Steelway were chosen to manufacture and install access
metalwork to the £1.4m Reading Viaduct. Balfour Beatty were the main contractor
on the project and chose Steelway as they had previously successfully completed
a £2.5m access metalwork project at Heathrow T5 & Piccadilly Extension
line.
The Reading viaduct included 7 Emergency Staircases, 3500
meters Parapet Handrailing including solid sections, 140 meters ball type
handrail and 1200 meters of cable trays. The majority of this work was carried
out between March-October 2014.
Paul Barnett
Commercial Manager at Balfour Beatty Construction Services UK had the following
to say about Steelway’s involvement with the project. “It has been an incredible achievement over
the past few months of which Steelway have been a significant part. Their
contribution to the project has been excellent. Let’s all make sure this
continues over the next few week.” Paul was not the only member
of the main contractors to be impressed by the work carried out on this
particular project. Executive General Manager for Balfour Beatty RICHARD ADAMS
visited the site during installation and commented: “Ancillary works of
handrail installation and tray works is progressing better than we had
expected. We have done brilliantly to get over the challenges of
hydro-demolishing a piece of wall but the speed we have got back up and running
again, hugely impressive. The massive culvert works installation has progressed
quietly, efficiently and safely which is another credit to the team.”
