The positive impact of Multi Use Games Areas

Published on June 23rd, 2020

The NHS has stated that being physically active during the Coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak is very important for your physical and mental health. It can enhance your mood, wellbeing and energy levels by helping to reduce stress, anxiety and depression.

An outdoor space, which has been available to people since restrictions eased slightly, is a Multi Use Games Areas. These areas provide a fantastic space for individuals to exercise through the medium of sport. For many the re-opening of these spaces has provided a much-needed outlet. Teenagers in particular really benefit from these spaces, especially inner city teens. Provided you are from the same household you can use these areas to there full capacity as long as you avoid touching the surfaces themselves.

You can also now play sport in groups of up to 6 people from other households provided you maintain a 2 metre gap from those you do not live with. This means that having a shootout in a MUGA with a friend is now possible, to the delight of many young people. It should be stressed that you should try to avoid shared equipment and therefore avoiding both touching the ball is advised.

Looking to the future, creating more outdoor play spaces will be essential in order to ensure young people are still able to both socialise and participate in sport in a safe way. Here at Steelway we provide an exciting range of multi use games areas equipment to suit a variety of different sporting activities, age groups and budgets.
