Knostrop Sludge Treatment facility benefits from Access Metalwork
Published on July 31st, 2018A project at the Knostrop waste water treatment works includes four new 25 metre high concrete sludge digester tanks. Steelway supplied and installed a whole range of safety critical access metalwork for the new construction.
Yorkshire Water is continuing to invest in the Knostrop waste water treatment works in Leeds. The new state-of the-art sludge treatment facility contributes to a commitment for renewable energy. As we as a nation continue to look at ways to become more efficient and self-sufficient.
We supplied and installed a range of access metalwork products including platforms, walkways, flooring, stairs and ladders. The access stairs provided wind around each of the sludge digester tanks and then access platforms connect the digester tanks. We also supplied and installed vertical access ladders with safety hoops.
Why Access Metalwork is so important
Access metalwork is a critical contributory factor to the safety of building servicing and maintenance. According to the Health and Safety Executive, people falling from roofs accounts for almost a quarter of all construction injuries. Well designed and installed access metalwork is therefore essential for projects, that require working at great heights such as these, sludge tanks.
Other Projects
We have worked on a similar project supplying and installing access metalwork to sludge digesters for the Welsh Water Alliance, at Afan WwTW. Part of their scheme included two large sludge digester tanks. This project included providing safe access from ground level to the top of the two 20 metre high x 18 metre diameter tanks. You can read more about this project here.
